Herbal Medicine Export from Iran Poised to Grow Amid Global Market Expansion
According to the latest reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) and international market research institutes, the global herbal medicine market is projected to surpass $500 billion by 2030. This rapid growth has caught the attention of countries with strong biodiversity and traditional medicine capabilities.
With over 8,000 plant species and a rich history in Persian traditional medicine, Iran holds a strategic position in this evolving market. However, experts highlight that unlocking this potential requires improvements in export infrastructure, international certifications, and modern packaging.
In response to this opportunity, several specialized accelerators in health and phytopharmaceuticals — including Padideh Giah Accelerator — have launched programs aimed at supporting the commercialization and export readiness of innovative herbal startups.
A representative from one accelerator noted:
“If Iranian knowledge-based companies obtain international certifications such as GMP and FDA approval, the path to exporting to European and Asian markets becomes significantly smoother.”
This shift marks a promising step toward expanding Iran’s non-oil exports and positioning it as a leading player in the global natural health sector.
